Education is one of the critical components that plays a crucial role in the future of all human species. It broadens one’s horizons and allows one to form their own opinions. Despite education being the most urgent issue that needs to be addressed, a gap remains to be bridged with varied perspectives. In the western region of Rajasthan, the literacy rate is lower, and dropout instances are gender-based, reflecting the dazzling lifestyles of numerous species.
The extremities had eroded at the time, and the gap had to be filled. Drop-out rates were at an all-time high between 1996 and 1999. The reason for this was that when a girl child reaches a particular age, she is married and sent away from her home. In light of different constraints, such as transportation and culture, the most adaptive source of education was to establish a community school for these fragile adolescents, through which awareness of the value of education could be ingrained in their life.
In addition, with the support of the National Foundation for India, five Balika Vikas Vidyalaya – non-formal education institutions – were created from 2000 to 2005 to address the relevance of education in the lives of these children. We were able to provide study materials and other forms of study equipment to students who were the offspring of daily wage labourers and dropouts using this Vidyalaya model in order to better their living situations and education. Few vidyalayas out of it were eventually renamed Rajiv Gandhi Pathshala government schools. This programme had a particularly notable impact.
Simultaneously, a residential camp for drop-out females from the fifth grade was held for 9 months. Amongst having a presence at the grassroot level, DHARA Sansthan recognized in 2005 that a large number of girl children from several villages had dropped out of school due to various unforeseen family issues and eventually got an opportunity to run (Shivamba Shivir) Comprehensive Girl’s Education Camp for several months. The conceptual thought was that no female should be left behind, regardless of her good traits or any restraints.
Since decades, requirements have been diversified. In 2013-16, we laid financial assistance for infrastructure improvement at specified 19 schools and 1 CHC in the Gudamalani block of Barmer, Rajasthan, under Facility Augmentation in Government Institutes of Barmer. Progressively, in 2016-17 in Jaisalmer and Barmer districts, we ensured that improvement in community education was lacking, so we extended support for edified sanitation provision and bicycles, keeping females’ development as a core feature. In 2019, under Health Camps, School Kit Distribution, and Promotion of Menstrual, Hygiene, and Sanitation at Government Schools, DHARA Sansthan could provide study materials and sanitary pads to encourage regular practise for underprivileged students in Jaisalmer district.
However, action in the education sector has been multifaceted over the years.
