M-RITE (Momentum Routine Immunization Transformation and Equity Project)
The global Covid-19 pandemic proved the structural inequality and exclusion faced by marginalized/disadvantaged/minorities across the globe causing a disproportionate impact on their lives and livelihoods. As a result, the already existing barriers of lack of access and information have been aggravated and new barriers emerged. We see the current transition era as a unique opportunity to address environmental, attitudinal, institutional, and communication barriers by the disadvantaged group of society.
Led by US-based prime partner JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc., M-RITE with USAID support has been mandated to provide technical assistance to the Government of India and State governments of selected states to identify challenges and facilitate feasible solutions to address them rapidly and ramp up COVID-19 vaccination in the country, aligned with the Government of Indian policy. John Snow India Pvt Ltd (JSIPL) is the lead implementing partner in India.
Access to health care is a common challenge for rural and frontier communities due to provider shortages, insufficient broadband Internet availability, and geographic location, among other issues. During the pandemic, additional challenges surfaced including a lack of trust in the government and concern about the COVID-19 vaccine. The project aims at targeting and identifying all those who still have their vaccination doses left to take. Some who have taken the first shot and have not turned up for the second shot would also remain the major beneficiaries of our project. The project will target the blocks in each district where vaccination coverage is low and the target has not been achieved as planned. Through our efforts total of 3,47,568 people were vaccinated in Barmer, Jaisalmer, Jalore and Jaipur.
Currently, Dhara is working on routine immunization project. The goal of the program is to enhance the overall vaccination service and coverage by improving accessibility, raising awareness, building capacity, and promoting equity in the assigned project geographies based on the learning of covid-19 vaccination program. A total of 36,556 children were immunized through our efforts.
